چکیده

INTRODUCTION Athletes with a cavus foot structure have a higher rate of injury compared to athletes with other foot types (Cowan et al., 1993; Burns et al., 2005b). This increased risk of injury is thought to be associated with the elevated plantar pressure seen in people with a cavus foot (Burns et al., 2005a; Sneyers et al, 1995). Athletes with a cavus foot type are routinely recommended ‘neutral’ running shoes by their healthcare provider for the reduction of plantar pressure and to prevent and treat lower limb running injuries (Manoli and Graham, 2005). However, there is little empirical evidence to support the use of ‘neutral’ running shoes to reduce plantar pressures in this patient population. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of two commonly recommended ‘neutral’ running shoes on in-shoe plantar pressure distribution and footwear comfort during overground running.

Changes in running mechanics using conventional shoelace versus elastic shoe cover.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there are differences in the perceived comfort, plantar pressure, and rearfoot motion between laced running shoes and elastic-covered running shoes. Fifteen male amateur runners participated in the study. Each participant was assigned laced running shoes and elastic-covered running shoes for use during the study. The perceived comfort, plantar ...

Immediate Effect of Respiratory Muscle Sprint-Interval Training (RMSIT) on the Plantar Pressure Variables in Athletes with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Objectives: The respiratory function is often overlooked in people with Low Back Pain (LBP), while it is one of the factors for the continuation and recurrence of lumbar spine injury. Aim of this study was survay the immediate effect of Respiratory Muscle Sprint-Interval Training (RMSIT) on the plantar pressure variables of athletes with LBP. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was condu...

Mechanism of orthotic therapy for the painful cavus foot deformity

BACKGROUND People who have extremely high arched feet or pes cavus often suffer from substantial foot pain. Custom-made foot orthoses (CFO) have been shown to be an effective treatment option, but their specificity is unclear. It is generally thought that one of the primary functions of CFO is redistributing abnormal plantar pressures. This study sought to identify variables associated with pai...

A comparison of planatar pressure variables during three differnt running patterns in pronated feet individuals with and without low back pain

Aims and background: Individuals with pronated feet suffer from many biomechanical dysfunctions during running. The purpose of this study was to compare the peak plantar pressure in ten areas of the foot, ground reaction force, center of pressure and loading rate during three different running patterns between healthy subjects and pronated feet individuals with and without LBP. Materials a...

Foot and lower limb diseases in runners: assessment of risk factors.

The present study analyzed the impact of the running style and the morphologic and functional characteristics of the foot on the incidence of non-traumatic foot and lower limb disorders in runners. From January 2004 to December 2008, we prospectively examined 166 runners, both recreational and competitive, involved in various running specialities, from three athletics clubs in Northern Italy. T...
